Local Out of Hours Services – the “GP HUB” & NHS 111

The following local series can be accessed by patients of Gables Surgery, who require out of hours medical assistance, when the surgery is closed.

” GP Hub Service”

To get an urgent Out of Hours GP appointment, on weekday evenings from 6.30pm until 10pm, or at Weekends from 8am to 8pm, please call the “GP HUB” service.

To book an appointment at the “GP HUB” call: 020 3770 1888. Their lines are open from 2pm to 9pm on weekdays, and from 9am-6pm at Weekends.

It is now possible to book appointments for Friday evening, Saturdays and Sundays from Thursdays each week, rather than on the day. Appointments must be booked in advance, you cannot walk in or turn up without an appointment on the day.

NHS 111 Service

Alternatively, when the practice is closed you can also call NHS 111 for advice and assistance 24 hours a day. Calls to 111 are free from all landlines and mobiles. NHS 111 provide assessments over the phone – along with advice or treatment recommendations from a range of health professionals if required.

If you need to be seen, then NHS 111 will directly book an urgent appointment for you at a local urgent care centre or GP Hub. They also have the ability to prescribe medicines over the phone if required.

Emergencies

Please only dial 999 for life threatening emergencies.

Call 999 in a medical emergency – when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

Medical emergencies can include:

  • loss of consciousness
  • an acute confused state
  • fits that are not stopping
  • persistent, severe chest pain
  • breathing difficulties
  • severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
  • severe allergic reactions
  • severe burns or scalds

If you are unsure if you should call 999 or 111 then please call 111, and the operator will direct you to the appropriate service.

NHS Walk in Centre

NHS Barking & Dagenham has a Walk-in-Centre based at Barking Community Hospital that provide treatment for minor injuries & illnesses as well as Xray Facilities.

Your local pharmacy is able to advise and provide treatment for a number of Minor Ailments & Illnesses. Some local pharmacies are also open until late evenings and at weekends.
